French second division club have already signed up legendary southern hemisphere figures such as the world’s most capped player, Wallaby scrum-half George Gregan, and former All Blacks and Crusaders’ points machine Andrew Mehrtens.
It was then revealed on Tuesday by French daily L’Equipe that Tana Umaga would also be taking up the role of general manager at second division French club, Toulon.
French website Le Site has also revealed that those two signings had as their origin the then-future manager Tana Umaga.
All Blacks hooker Anton Oliver is also set to sign for Toulon, and it has been revealed that Springbok lineout kingpin Victor Matfield is firmly in Umaga’s sights too.
Matfield is reportedly also being chased by other French clubs such as Bayonne and Stade Francais.
With a host of New Zealanders being targeted for post-World Cup European re-location, a Springbok exodus is being anticipated by some.
South African captain John Smit has been linked with Clermont.
