Springbok coach Jake White’s controversial meeting with President Thabo Mbeki has been postponed at the request of the Bok coach, announced presidential spokesperson Mukoni Ratshitanga.
“The Presidency will schedule another meeting if or when Mr White makes another request in future,” said Ratshitanga. He stated that the meeting had not been to discuss rugby issues, unless White had brought them up. “It’s not the purpose. When he requested the meeting, he requested a courtesy call.”
White is unhappy that the meeting will no longer take place on his terms and has therefore requested a postponement.
This comes after SARU president Oregan Hoskins instructed a member of White’s management team to write a letter to the presidency requesting that the entire Springbok team accompany White to the meeting.
Ratshitanga announced that the presidency had no knowledge of the request.
“I do not know of that request… I have not seen the letter,” he said.
