No sooner had Bob Skinstad and Jake White arrived in Sydney than they discovered that they had been robbed.
As if the frenzied reception from the baying mob of Aussie journalists was not enough, the coach and captain then realised that they had been the victims of crime when their luggage was dropped off at their hotel in Darling Harbour.
Bobby’s laptop, containing his diary and other personal information, camera and cellphone had been stolen from his bag. Jake’s bag had been cut open – although it is not known if anything was stolen.
“My bag was not cut but I’ve lost several items,” said Skinstad.
The team’s logistics manager, Mac Hendricks lodged a complaint with the airline and made a police report on Friday. However, he was not hopeful that the goods would be recovered.
The Boks had no chance of slipping into Australia unseen after the long flight due to the fact that the Australian Rugby Union had spitefully leaked the details of the Boks’ arrival to journalists.
