Ticket sales boom for Boks v Wallabies

Ticket sales for Saturday’s Tri Nations test between the Boks and Australia’s canary yellows at Sydney’s Telstra Stadium are booming – rubbishing claims by the ARU that supporters would be staying away in the wake of the Springboks’ announcement of a weakened team.

Sales were around the 50 000 mark by Wednesday afternoon.

“Tickets have been snapped up at a rate of more than 1000 a day since the 20-15 come-from-behind victory at the MCG last Saturday night,” said an ARU statement.

Just a week after wanting to scrap the test, and labeling the South Africans as betrayers, the whingeing Australians have changed their tune as the cash rolls into their coffers. The ARU are now billing Saturday’s test as being against an ‘in-form’ South Africa!

John O’Neill, Australian Rugby Union CEO, did the biggest about-turn.

“For so many reasons this is shaping as a test to remember. This has been a terrific Tri-Nations series to date, with tight matches between all three teams, topped off by the Wallabies’ victory last weekend.

“This Saturday offers another great opportunity, in fact the last opportunity to see our boys at home before they head off to France,” concluded O’Neill before presumably sitting down to eat a large slice of humble pie.
