Giteau collapses in nightclub

Star Australian centre Matt Giteau has had blood and urine samples taken after apparently passing out outside a Sydney nightclub on Sunday.

It was the same night that team-mate Lote Tuqiri was out boozing in celebration of the Wallaby victory against New Zealand in Saturday’s Bledisloe Cup clash.

According to Australian Channel 9 news, Giteau had not been drinking heavily yet had to be carried out of the club in Sydney’s King’s Cross district after suffering a ‘momentary blackout’.

The Australian Rugby Union’s medical team has done medical tests to find out why he suddenly collapsed.

Although the precise results are not yet known (and probably never will be given the ARU’s past record), substance abuse has been ruled out and Giteau will take his place in Saturday’s Wallaby team to face South Africa.

Giteau’s team-mate, the time-management-challenged Lote Tuqiri has been banned for two games following a breathalyzer test on Monday which revealed him to have a reading of 0.5 – way over the legal limit.

He had trouble reading his diary and ended up missing a medical and recovery session. It says a lot about the behaviour of the Wallaby players that their medical team had a breathalyzer on hand to test the errant winger.
