Currie Cup Review Round 7

In Currie Cup action this weekend, the Sharks beat the Valke in Brakpan, Western Province edged out Griquas in Kimberley, the Lions scraped to a narrow victory over Boland in Wellington and the Cheetahs continued their unbeaten run in this year’s Currie Cup with victory over the Bulls in Bloem.

Aug 10: Valke v Sharks, Brakpan [22-45]

The Sharks started strongly, wrapping up the bonus point within 14 minutes. However the Valke came back and got amongst the Sharks players, disrupting their pattern and getting back into the game. The Sharks were too strong in the end though, running out 45-22 victors.

Western Province ended Griquas’ unbeaten run at home in Kimberley with a late try by Corne Uys proving the difference between the two sides. Peter Grant, playing at number 12, scored two tries and was named man-of-the-match.

The Cheetahs turned it up a gear to score three tries in the final 11 minutes against a visibly exhausted Bulls side. The Bulls competed strongly for the first 50 minutes but had little gas left in the tank towards the end.
