Spies verdict delayed again

Pierre Spies and the rest of the rugby-supporting public of South Africa will now have to wait until Tuesday to find out if the Bok eigthman has been recalled to the Springbok team.

Springbok coach Jake White and Bok team doctor Dr Hassan addressed the media in Cape Town today regarding the new delay in coming to a decision on Spies.

“With regards to the management of Pierre Spies, we will need to wait until the third specialist has reviewed all the diagnostic tools and data,” said Hassan.

“When we have the results from this analysis we will be able to take a final decision. We hope to have clarity on the matter by tomorrow.

“Whatever decision we take it will be in the best interest of the athlete and the team.”

White defended Hassan from criticism over his initial analysis of Spies which suggested that the player would be out of action for at least eight months, thereby missing out on the World Cup.

“It’s Doc Hassan’s first priority to look after Spies, and I think you could say he’s done his job,” said White.

“If he had not pulled him out to have his condition assessed Pierre could have broken down at the World Cup with a horrific injury.

“In this respect, the negativity is completely unfounded. We will have 29 of our 30 players ready for the World Cup and we are now only waiting on Pierre,” concluded the Bok coach.
