Pierre Spies, in consultation with the Blue Bulls and SA Rugby has decided not to play rugby for the rest of 2007.
A joint statement was issued today by SA Rugby (Pty) Ltd and the Blue Bulls Company (Pty) Ltd:
“At the request of Pierre Spies and in consultation with the Blue Bulls Company (Pty) Ltd and SA Rugby we issue the following statement:
“After four weeks of intensive medical evaluation Pierre Spies in conjunction with his family, has decided not to play rugby for the rest of this year. During the next three months he will be monitored weekly whereafter his condition will be re-evaluated.
“SA Rugby and the Blue Bulls Company (Pty) Ltd support and endorse Pierre’s decision. All parties wish him a speedy recovery and look forward to seeing him back on the playing field.
“Pierre would like to thank all medical consultants. He also extends his heartfelt thanks to his family, friends and supporters throughout the country for their prayers and support.
“A request is made to all to respect this decision and allow him a speedy recovery period.”
