In another example of the over-zealous citing procedure at this year’s World Cup, Bok centre Francois Steyn has been cited for allegedly biting the finger of Tongan back Joseph Faka.
The IRB citing commissioners are desperately trying to find footage that would show the alleged incident which was not picked up by cameras during the match broadcast. Unless other footage comes to the fore, Steyn will be found not guilty.
The young Bok star was cited just minutes before the 48-hour citing window closed and faces a hearing this morning.
Both players were yellow-carded for fighting during the match and Faka complained to the referee that he had been bitten.
After the match Steyn revealed that Faka had made the allegation and protested his innocence.
