Francois Steyn has been cleared of biting Tongan wing Joseph Vaka.

The Bok centre’s citing for alleged biting was dismissed in Paris today and he will continue to play his part in the Bok World Cup campaign.

According to a Press release from the IRB it turns out that the citing was initiated by the Tongan team management.

The judicial officer considered after hearing all the available evidence that he could not be satisfied on the balance of probabilities that Steyn had committed the act of biting alleged in the citing complaint.

After hearing the evidence, the judicial officer accepted Steyn’s explanation that he could not possibly have been involved in the contact that led to an alleged mark on Vaka’s hand.

He also accepted the evidence from the Tongan player that it may have happened by accident during the fight.
