Luke Watson spoke briefly about his much-anticipated Bok debut against Samoa.
“Singing the anthem was very special. For someone who enjoys the new South Africa, the new democracy and the liberation of the people, it was something that really touched my heart. It could have been a tear-jerker, but I promised myself I wouldn’t cry so I held back the tears.”
That’s the spirit Luke! Cowboys don’t cry, issinit? Did anyone else notice how tiny he looked standing between Danie Rossouw and Albert van den Berg? No wonder White thinks he’s too small. Didn’t feature in any lineouts during his time on the field, resulting in Skinstad’s workload at the tail increasing significantly.
Watson’s debut only lasted 49 minutes “I took a knock to the ribs so the doc pulled me off,” he said. “I was pretty happy with my performance. I thought I filled my role well enough, made a few turnovers and slowed their ball down. Bob and I communicated nicely. As a loose-trio we combined well.”
Presumably his communication with Danie Rossouw wasn’t as smooth. Afrikaans not your strong point Luke? Oh well, next year when you’re captain there won’t be any Afrikaners in the side so don’t stress…
