A 72-year-old Welsh rugby fan ejected from Saturday’s Test against Australia after she walked on to the field, has been guaranteed the best seat in the house for the second Test in Brisbane this weekend.
According to the Australian Associated Press (AAP), Sydney woman Jean Richards inadvertently broke the law when she entered the Telstra Stadium playing arena during the second half of the Test between the Wallabies and Wales in front of a vocal section of Welsh supporters.
Police told her the incident could attract a fine, but instead she was escorted out of the stadium. Richards said she went on to the field only because she mistakenly believed that a Wallabies mascot beckoned her.
“To me it looked as though he went like that (to join him),” she told the Nine Network. “I didn’t think I did anything wrong. I would no more go near the field because to distract the boys… and Australia could go in and score a try.”
Australian Rugby Union officials offered Richards match tickets and return travel to Brisbane.
Her seat will be well back from the fence, however.
