Gurthro Steenkamp made his comeback against England in Bloemfontein last week, albeit off the bench. The second test will be his first start since August 2005.
“I’m just grateful to be back in the side. To have been on the bench last week was awesome, but I’m looking forward to starting and I’m excited. Once you miss out on two years of Springbok rugby you realise what you had and how special it is to be a Springbok. It is not just your right, it is a privilege and I’m looking forward to it on Saturday.”
He spoke about last week’s performance and the Boks’ plan for the second test on Saturday.
“Obviously there were a lot of resets last weekend. As a front row we chatted about it and we know what we are going to do to try and prevent a repeat of last week’s events. We’re not happy with our performance last week, but we also just got together as a side. Now we’re looking to improve on our performance at the weekend.”
“We’re in the fortunate position to have the Sharks players and the Bulls in the Bok scrum. These are two different packs that have come together, but they played very well in the super 14. We just want to take that same energy and same dominance into the Springbok pack”.
