Locals provoke Wallabies in bar

A group of Wallabies walks into a bar…

The advance party of Australian players and officials currently staying in Cape Town, were apparently provoked by locals in a bar on Saturday night.

The locals (including former Bok centre Robbie Fleck) began pelting the hapless Ockers with ice blocks. The Aussies, warned to be on their best behaviour, tried their best to ignore them. One of the players eventually went over to the group and told them not to bother. “You’re wasting your time,” he said.

The warning to the players comes after a number of embarrassing incidents including Matt Henjak being sent home after brawling with a team mate, Wendell Sailor pushing a fellow patron and throwing up in a pot plant outside a nightclub, and the infamous Cape Town taxi affair in 2000 involving the Brumbies in which the taxi driver complained about the Australians jumping on his car and ripping out the taxi meter.

The players are so worried about the possible consequences of any indiscretions that they were even seen to behave well on an SAA flight to Johannesburg. The surprised crew even congratulated them on their good behaviour and said that it was “a pleasure to serve” the well-behaved Wallabies.
