Campo knew in January

Sharks CEO Brian van Zyl yesterday replied to claims that they had mistreated Skills Coach David Campese.

Campo lashed out this week, saying that the Sharks had not informed him about his future at the franchise. He has since quit and is on the lookout for a new job. He has already been linked to the position of backline coach with French club Montpellier.

“The Sharks (Pty) Ltd note with regret the comments made by former Skills Coach David Campese that he was never informed of any further developments with regards his tenure at the Sharks,” said the statement by van Zyl.

“We would like to point out that as early as January of this year at a formal meeting with David Campese, he was informed that there would be no guarantee that his services would be required at the conclusion of the Super 14.

“We regret any misunderstanding that may have arisen, and would like to wish David all the best in his future endeavours. His contribution to the Sharks was immense and certainly had a role in the Sharks successes this past season.”
