All Blacks given Bledisloe history lesson

The All Blacks held a meeting yesterday to impress upon some of the younger players the importance of winning the Bledisloe Cup. The cup itself, as well as some of the legends of the All Blacks game, were in attendance.

Current All Blacks’ fullback, Mils Muliaina, revealed some details of the gathering.

“The older heads have all spoken about how long it took to get the Bledisloe back. They have talked about those dying moments in Tests when they lost it.

“They want us to realise how long it took and the feeling that was achieved when we finally got it back. Anton (Oliver) has mentioned it quite a bit.

“Sir Brian (Lochore) has spoken about the importance of the Bledisloe Cup, and about what it means to New Zealanders. It does mean a lot, and it’s nice to know guys like him can fill in the younger generation – to let them know what it is all about,” said Muliaina.

All Blacks’ captain Richie McCaw noted the hunger in his team to retain the Bledisloe.

“I know our team is pretty hungry and there’s a lot of guys who went through a lot of pain to get the Bledisloe back.

“It’s not an easy trophy to win and there’s a fair few guys who remind each other of what that’s all about.

“The Bledisloe is an important trophy for us so I hope we’ve got the same excitement and want as the Aussies – because if we don’t then we’ll come second,” concluded McCaw.
