This year will be the 41st School Seven’s event. 32 teams have accepted the invitation to ‘The Battle of Brookside III’ and will take part in SA’s founding Schools Sevens Rugby Tournament (the oldest in this country) first played in 1969 at the Villager Football Club.
The event’s headline sponsor for the 41st occasion is Sportsman’s Warehouse. Villager Rugby sponsor, PUMA will be providing the Clothing and Prizes this year.
This tournament has seen many spectacular rugby games over the years and is now one of the most popular events on the School calendar.
The tournament is to be held on Friday 4th September, and takes place between 2.00pm. and approx 8.30pm at the Villager Club.
After playing the first round matches, teams will split in to two separate competitions, running simultaneously on all three of the Villager fields.
* The Trophy Competition – for the 16 successful teams after the first round of games.
* The Plate Competition – for the remaining 16 teams after the first round.
Every team is assured of playing a minimum of two matches.
Prize giving is immediately after the final whistle blows and will take place on the A Field.
Gold Medals are awarded to the Winners of the Trophy. Silver Medals are awarded to the Runner’s-Up in the Trophy Section and Bronze Medals are awarded to the Winners of the Plate Section.
The Winning Team also receives the Villager Sevens Floating Trophy and the Winners of the separate competition, receive the Plate Floating Trophy.
All teams making it into the Quarter Finals of the Trophy Section with also be receiving Puma sponsored T-Shirts. The Winners of both the Trophy Section and Plate Section will also be receiving Puma sponsored performance jackets and golf-shirts respectively.
This year food and drink will be provided by “THE BROOKSIDER” (Villager Pub & Grub… and drinks to Over 18’s), BUTLERS PIZZA, SPUR and PRONTO COFFEE. COKE & POWERADE will be providing drinks at all three fields to Spectators. They are also providing “free fuel” to Players and Coaches over the 3 fields.

Secure Parking is available at both the Villager complex on Landsdowne Road (albeit limited), and at the Claremont Public School fields at R10 per vehicle. Free parking outside, where it can be found. Entrance to coaches and players in the tournament is Free. Spectators entrance fee is R10 per person which includes a programme.
Former Protea cricket hero, Brian Macmillan, will be presenting the prizes.
