Written off by everyone except myself, Western Province put in a gutsy performance to deny the Sharks in Durban. The final score was 25 – 18. Key aspects of the game were John Plumtree’s poor substitutions (particularly taking Jannie du Plessis off), Craig Burden’s terrible lineout throwing, Demetri Catrakilis’ drop-goals, and Juan de Jongh’s brilliantly taken try. Luckily Jaco Peyper’s shocking refereeing performance did not influence the result.

The nominations are out for the 2012 SA Rugby Player of the Year. Winners will be announced at Saru’s annual awards ceremony in Cape Town on 1 November.
