BMW South Africa (Pty) Ltd was announced as official vehicle sponsor of the Springboks by the South African Rugby Union (SARU) at Turbine Hall in Johannesburg earlier today.

The announcement, coming just two months before the kick off of the Springboks’ international season, will see the BMW brand mark adorning the left leg of the players’ shorts in official Test matches until the end of 2015. It is BMW’s first foray into international rugby sponsorship globally.

Castle Lager, creator and sponsor of the wildly popular Bafana Bafana and Proteas SuperFans, is extending its search for South Africa’s ultimate sports fans into new territory: rugby. As the only sponsor of all three major national sports teams, Castle Lager will start the search for the Springbok SuperFans during the Lions vs. Cheetahs clash in Coca Cola Park on Friday, 6 May.

Springbok scrum consultant Os du Randt’s contract has not been extended to cover this year’s World Cup.

The reason given by the media but not yet confirmed by SARU is that his contract was not renewed due to a lack of money. However, SARU have just signed a massive 5 year deal with Absa. And anyway, if they have to cut back, why cut back in a World Cup year of all years?
