For the first time in 3 years, Brookside enjoyed some warmer, clearer weather which later became cooler as cloud swept over the mountain – but most importantly there was no rain!

Opening matches were slightly delayed due to three schools arriving late and unfortunately two ‘no shows’. But those issues were quickly overcome and the tournament was well underway. (more…)

This year will be the 41st School Seven’s event. 32 teams have accepted the invitation to ‘The Battle of Brookside III’ and will take part in SA’s founding Schools Sevens Rugby Tournament (the oldest in this country) first played in 1969 at the Villager Football Club. (more…)

2008 Villager School’s Sevens Draw:

Villager Draw 2008

ABOUT THE  VILLAGER SEVENS

The Villager Sevens Rugby Tournament this big  40th year will follow the format of the World Sevens, famous for events in Hong Kong, Dubai , London, and many other countries, including South Africa. This two tier system has proved extremely popular on the basis of two simultaneous competitions, one to win the Trophy, and one to win the Plate award.

At the end of August,  our 32  Cape  Schools will take part in South Africa’s founding Schools Sevens Rugby Tournament, in Claremont, which  is the oldest in this country, played every year  at the Villager Rugby Fields.

The Sevens event has always taken place  immediately following the last round of Schools rugby matches. This ensures that every school’s team can enjoy a great “send off”  from schools rugby,  by enjoying the year’s final rugby event. This tournament is one of the most  popular events on the Schools Sport and social Calendar. Teams visiting the Villager Rugby fields, as well as the supporters and spectators will enjoy a superb rugby experience.

All 32 teams will compete in the same set of games , which is the “Opening Round” draw. At the end of the opening round, schools will split in to two competitions, played over three fields.  These are the “Trophy” and the “Plate”. The winning teams at the end of the two final games, will have their School names engraved on the trophy they have won!

SOME MORE DETAILS

A great deal of work and planning has been put into trying to ensure that this is the finest Schools Sevens Tournament in the Country.  The event is sponsored once again by Sportsman’s Warehouse, as it has been from inception.
The  printed program at the gate will be informative, including articles about the venue, matches to be played, schools taking part, names of the players, and history of the Tournament,
The winning teams will be congratulated and acknowledged by receiving  special Villager Sevens Medals, as life memory of this event.
