All Black legend and master of gamesmanship Sean Fitzpatrick has come out in support of the 2007 New Zealand World Cup team.

“This is the first time a side has been built with the express goal of winning the World Cup,” said Fitzpatrick to The Times.

“Graham Henry has been allowed to tinker with his team in the search for the right combinations.

“The game has totally changed from 1987, but I believe that the side we had that won it were each the best in the world in their positions.

“The present side has maybe only ten of the best.

“There are the best two props in the world, Hayman and Woodcock, no question; Chris Jack at lock; Richie McCaw at 7, I like Jerry Collins, too; then Dan Carter, Aaron Mauger, Luke McAlister and the two wings. They are all the best in the world.

“Of course, ask me after the World Cup and we might have the best XV all the way through the side,” he said smiling.

  1. Master of gamesmanship is so right – I always remember him placing the ball for his kicker at least a meter closer to the poles while distracting the ref. Good for him though. He seems to be slipping slightly – I mean McAlister the best in the world in his position?
