A large scale overhaul of South African rugby has been unveiled in a bid to take the sport to a new level in the country. The changes will take place on September 1, and will be fully operational by the time the Springboks travel to New Zealand for the World Cup.

As we all know by now, Joost van der Westhuizen has been facing some extreme challenges to his health and indeed survival. He recently returned from a leading international centre of Neurology at The Cleveland Medical Centre in Ohio, USA, but unfortunately his struggles are far from over. Joost has been diagnosed with Motor Neuron Disease, Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, or ALS, is a disease of the nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord that control voluntary muscle movement. ALS is also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease.

Provisional fixture dates have been decided for the 2012 Springbok season which is set to include an incoming tour by England in the middle of the Super 15, the newly expanded Four Nations tournament featuring Argentina, and the annual End of Year Tour to Europe.
