A large scale overhaul of South African rugby has been unveiled in a bid to take the sport to a new level in the country. The changes will take place on September 1, and will be fully operational by the time the Springboks travel to New Zealand for the World Cup.
As we all know by now, Joost van der Westhuizen has been facing some extreme challenges to his health and indeed survival. He recently returned from a leading international centre of Neurology at The Cleveland Medical Centre in Ohio, USA, but unfortunately his struggles are far from over. Joost has been diagnosed with Motor Neuron Disease, Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, or ALS, is a disease of the nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord that control voluntary muscle movement. ALS is also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease.
Wales scrum-half Mike Phillips has been handed an indefinite suspension from the national side after being involved in an altercation in Cardiff City centre. (more…)

The International Rugby Board has threatened to expel Fiji, preventing its participation at this year’s World Cup, because the nation’s military regime had attempted to depose the entire Fiji Rugby Union.

England prop Andrew Sheridan has ensured Sale RFU will have a good end to the week from hell. Sheridan, who turned down big money moves to France, has signed a contract extension with the Edgely Park club to keep him at the club past the 2011 Rugby world cup to the end of the 2012 season. (more…)
